Miami Beach Jan 2012

Spent a relaxing 3 weeks in Miami Beach. We stayed in a couple of places. Firstly, a nice art deco apartment on Euclid Ave. This was only a couple of blocks from the beach and ocean drive. We booked the apartment via vrbo.com, much better than being stuck in an hotel room. The area around South Beach is full of life, you can meet folks from everywhere here. That really is part of the flair - somewhat European compared to the pensioners paradise that is the Florida of Naples and Fort Myers Beach. More about those 2 later.

Anyway week one began with R&R on the beach and in the local fitness center Equinox,

A great fitness center and my wife enjoyed the deep tissue massages there. Pay for the massage and you can train for 3 days gratis. A real win/win situation.

The first night we wandered along ocean drive - plenty of restaurants - mostly quite expensive. Walk 2 blocks back to Washington Ave for equally good, if not better food at a much better price. But Ocean Drive does give one the opportunity to sit and stare. While we there a "hip hop artist" to quote a young lady I asked, was visiting in his Bugatti (essentially an expensive VW). Crowds of tourists and paparazzi ensured that he was noticed. According to my son, it wasn't Lil Wayne
